Alternative and Clean Energy Program – Northern Bedford County School District – Biomass Project-Northern Bedford School District will receive a $746,192 Alternative and Clean Energy Program grant to purchase and install a central biomass system to heat three campus buildings in Woodbury Township. The new heating system, which runs on wood chips, will offset fuel oil consumption by 84 percent, and is expected to result in an annual energy savings of $145,000. Read More.

Alternative and Clean Energy Program – Sullivan County School District – Biomass Project- Sullivan County School District is constructing a 1,750 square foot biomass boiler facility to heat its elementary and high schools. The facility will be connected to an existing boiler facility and HVAC systems, and will utilize Pennsylvania manufactured equipment which will provide low-cost, renewable fuel heat for the schools served. School District of the City of Erie -Utilizing the components of service-learning, the Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy Green Team collaborates with other schools and organizations in a students-teaching-students process to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the Erie City School District through reduction of electrical lighting. The eventual goal is to have every school in the district achieve Energy Star status. Grow Pittsburgh's Edible Schoolyard - Grow Pittsburgh's Edible Schoolyard integrates garden activities into the classroom to improve students' eating habits and academic performance. Students help to plant and harvest garden produce, and they sample vegetables directly from the garden and prepared by local chefs during cooking demonstrations. Grow Pittsburgh also works with the Pittsburgh Public Schools Food Service Director to feature local, seasonal fruits and vegetables in school lunches. Read More

Council Rock School District - Newtown, Pennsylvania - Council Rock School District (CRSD), located in southeastern Pennsylvania, serves 12,000 students in 17 facilities, totaling 1.8 million square feet of floor space. The school district is receiving ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence recognition for the first time for its continued success in improving energy efficiency through its energy management policy, established in 2005.

Chambersburg Area School District - Chambersburg, Pennsylvania - Chambersburg Area School District covers a 250-square-mile radius and educates a population of 8,600 students in 17 buildings. We currently have 22 buildings total in the district. CASD teamed up with Energy Education, Inc. in July of 2007 to begin a proactive approach to lowering utility costs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the process. All employees and students have become better stewards of the resources used. The district's energy efficiency has saved taxpayer monies and increased awareness of our energy usage at school, work, and carries over to home. Employees model reducing, reusing, and recycling as part of the district's conservation efforts.
